Deepti Nair was born in Kerala and led a peripatetic childhood, growing up in Africa and places across India. The colours of those times - the vivid greens, the umbers and the ochres, are an abiding memory and a recurring theme in her work. Trees, for her, hold an atavistic fascination. In their features, smooth boled or time wrinkled, twisted and gnarled or planed, dense or clot canopied, she sees the human visage in its myriad variations, the elemental qualities of humanity in the elements of nature; in the 'forests of the mind' She has a Master's degree in English Literature and is a self-taught artist.
