About Deepti Nair

Deepti Nair was born in Kerala and led a peripatetic childhood, growing up in Africa and places across India. The colours of those times - the vivid greens, the umbers and the ochres, are an abiding memory and a recurring theme in her work. Trees, for her, hold an atavistic fascination. In their features, smooth boled or time wrinkled, twisted and gnarled or planed, dense or clot canopied, she sees the human visage in its myriad variations, the elemental qualities of humanity in the elements of nature; in the 'forests of the mind' She has a Master's degree in English Literature and is a self-taught artist.

She first exhibited her work in a group show "Praxis" held at The Coomaraswamy Hall, The Prince of Wales Museum in February 2012,which was opened by Arzan and Khushnuma Khambatta and was also a part of the inaugural show of the Easel Art Gallery at Juhu which was curated by Khushnuma Khambatta in May 2014 Besides these she has participated in a number of shows curated by Mr Sunil Chauhan and Ms Aparimita Sapru, the most recent being 'Colours 2014'. She is also a member of The Artist's Center, Kala Ghoda, and has exhibited her work at two if its events. More recently, she has collaborated on a three dimensional painted installation which was a part of Mumbai's Kala Ghoda Arts Festival held in February 2015 and showed her recent work in Dubai at the Global Art Fair curated by Mr. Chauhan this March.
